21st Century

Galena Park ISD has been awarded a 21st CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER grant to provide educational and enriching after school programs, as well as programs for family members of student participants. The after-school programs are held at the following campuses:
  • Galena Park Middle School
  • Cloverleaf Elementary School
  • Green Valley Elementary School
  • Woodland Acres Elementary School
  • Woodland Acres Middle School
  • Galena Park Elementary School
  • Havard Elementary School
  • Purple Sage Elementary School
While our primary concern is to provide a safe place for your child to be after school, we will offer a variety of activities to assist your child with their current academics as well as introduce them to new ideas and experiences, which they can carry with them in the future. It is our hope that every child can develop a life-long love for learning, which will carry them through to high school graduation, a college education, and into their adult life.

The 21st Century Program will start on Monday, September 8, 2008. Program hours will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. All students that participate will receive a snack after school, homework assistance and bus transportation, if needed. Students will have the opportunity to select enrichment activities which they choose to participate in on a semester-by-semester basis. There is no fee to be a participant in the after school program. There is a mandatory registration form that must be filled out in its entirety in order to participate. We will also host monthly family member activities. In order to secure ongoing funding, parental participation in these activities is necessary. If you are interested in your child participating in any of the after school program activities at his/her campus, please complete the on-line application and return it via email to chines@galenaparkisd.com or print and return the application to your student's campus.

We look forward to working with you this year. If you have any questions please contact Charmaine Hines, Coordinator of School Initiatives and Grants @ (832)386-1043.
