Galena Park ISD participates in the Texas Teacher Retirement System ActiveCare healthcare pool offered to Texas school districts. Under the federal Affordable Care Act, an employer’s healthcare plan must meet certain standards. In order for an employer’s plan to meet the standards of the Affordable Care Act, the plan must be affordable as outlined by the Act, provide Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC), and provide Minimum Value (MV).
According to the Act, Galena Park ISD offers an affordable plan which is based on the lowest cost plan for employee only. In the 2018-2019 plan year this is $46.00. The District’s plan also provides Minimum Essential Coverage which includes the following:
Mental Health & Substance Use Disorder Services
Maternity and Newborn Care
Pediatric Services, including Oral and Vision care
Rehabilitative and Habilitative Services and Devices
Preventive and Wellness Services and Chronic Disease Management
Along with offering an Affordable Plan with Minimum Essential Coverage, the District’s plan is also deemed to be of Minimum Value, with a plan that pays at least 60% of the total cost of medical services for the standard population.
