School Cancellation Procedures

  • Galena Park ISD Parents and Guardians,

We want to ensure everyone knows the procedures we will follow and what to expect from our district in the event school needs to be cancelled at any time during the school year. Galena Park ISD will:

    1. Complete an emergency call out to all contact numbers on record for each student. The calls are started as soon as possible after the decision to cancel school occurs, which is generally at 5:00 am. It takes approximately one hour for the system to contact all the numbers we have on record. In the event classes need to be cancelled for multiple days, you will receive a separate phone call for each day our schools are closed. An email will also be delivered if your account information is on file.

Galena Park ISD utilizes Blackboard Parentlink to communicate with parents and guardians. This system is updated daily from our student management system (Skyward). During the recent verification/enrollment process, you provided your contact information. These are the numbers to which our system will send a message. We strive to comply with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and promptly remove incorrect numbers when we are notified. If you are receiving calls, in error, from our Blackboard system, please contact us at 832-386-1000, and we will ensure your number is removed from our list.

    2. Notify the following media outlets:
      a. KPRC-Channel 2 e. KIAH-Channel 39
      b. KHOU-Channel 11 f. KTMD-Channel 47 (Telemundo)
      c. KTRK-Channel 13 g. KXLN-Channel 45 (Univision)
      d. KRIV-Channel 26 h. KTRH-740 AM (News Radio)
    3. Post the cancellation message on our district webpage (, Facebook (Galena Park ISD) and Twitter (@GalenaParkISD). Again, if classes need to be cancelled for multiple days, we will post a new message for each day our schools are closed.
