Galena Park High School Football Coaches
Coach Whigham is returning to Galena Park as the Offensive Coordinator/Assistant Head Coach. He is beginning his 25th year of coaching, and he is back for a second stint at GP after spending 2010-2014 here at Galena Park. He is a graduate of Galena Park High School and the University of Houston. He is married to his beautiful and supportive wife Cindy, and they have 5 children: Caden, Cambrea, Kristie, Karlie, and Austin, and four of them are currently enrolled in college. Coach Whigham is excited to be back home in Galena Park and is looking forward to a successful season.
John Wayne Simms
Wide Receivers/Special Teams Coordinator
Coach John Wayne Simms is entering his 9th year coaching and is excited to return to his Alma Mater. Coach Simms is a 2011 graduate from University of Houston - Clear Lake and earned his Master's Degree from Lamar University in 2014. He spent the first 5 years of his career in Galena Park ISD at North Shore HS, Woodland Acres MS and Galena Park HS. Coach Simms has been married to his wife Nelly, since 2016 and they are blessed with 2 beautiful children, John Wayne Jr (2) and Emily, who was born in March.
Coach Botello is a devoted Christian, married to his amazing wife Stephanie, and father to his awesome son, Clayton. He is a graduate from Galena Park, and received his Bachelors degree from Houston Baptist University. This is his 7th year teaching and coaching, his 6th year at Galena Park.
Noe Peña is a graduate of Texas A & M Kingsville. He has been a teacher and coach for 19 years. He was a coach at Benavides High School, Roma High School, and Mathis High School before joining the Galena Park High School Staff in 2006.
Chip Houston is in his third year with the Galena Park Football program. He has also served as an assitant coach to both the GP softball and baseball teams. Coach Houston graduated in 2013 from TAMU-CC. This is Coach Houston’s sixth year teaching and his fofth year coaching. Coach Houston will be coaching Wide Receivers and teaching Algebra 1 this year.
Assistant Offensive Line/Freshmen
Noe Vela graduated from Texas State University in 2004. Prior to joining GPISD Coach Vela spent one year at West OSO ISD in Corpus Christi, Texas. Coach Vela spent 8 years developing the young Hornets at Woodland Acres Middle School. Noe is entering his fourth year at Galena Park High School Yellow Jacket football program and his seventh year with the Yellow Jacket softball program.
Coach Morales is entering his 13th year teaching/coaching. He is returning for his second stint at Galena Park after spending time at Houston Westside and Bryan Rudder. He has been married to his wife Stephanie for 12 years. Stephanie is the nurse for Jacinto City Elementary. They have two sons, Christian (10) and Landon (4). Coach Morales graduated from Bryan HS and received his bachelors degree from Texas State University and his Masters from Lamar University.
Coach King is starting his 26th year, 2nd at Galena Park, of coaching football in Texas. Originally from Illinois, he started coaching with Illinois State University. His career has had stops at San Antonio Lee, Mansfield HS, Fort Worth Paschal HS, Tomball HS, Bloomington HS, Clear Lake HS, and most recently Westfield HS. Coach King has been married to his wife Amy for 24 years. They have two children, Wyatt and Katherine. Coach King is excited about being a part of the Galena Park family and looks forward to being a part of the many successes to come.
Coach Charles Foster is from Cameron, TX. He has been coaching for 8 years. He attended The University of Houston where he lettered in Football. Coach Foster is entering his third season at Galena Park.
Ronnie Jones was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Where he attended and graduated from C.E.King High School. Then went on to get a Bachelors in Science from Texas Southern University. Coach Jones has 3 years of Varsity Coaching experience with Aldine and Sheldon ISD, working in the Secondary and with Outside Linebackers. He is entering his second year at Galena Park.
Coach Ron Richmond is going on his 32nd year coaching and 29th year teaching. Coach Richmond is joing the Galena Park staff after spending the last 5 seasons at Houston Westside where he has been a part of 5 straight playoff seasons. Coach Richmond has worked in several programs and has previous experience as a head coach and offensive coordinator. He was part of a state championship team in 1991 in Kileen and has coached in many playoff games over his career. Coach Richmond is a proud Army Veteran and graduate of Texas A&M-University. He is also a proud father of his two children, Cody and Halie.
