• Woodland Acres vs Cedar Bayou
    8th Gold Team:
    On October 25th the 8th grade black team lost to Cedar Bayou in three sets, 25-20, 22-25 and 7-15. The Hornets played well in set one taking the first win, but costly mistakes in the second set opened the door for Cedar Bayou to take the set. The Lady Hornets lost the mental battle which in the end resulted in a match loss. Gabriela Munoz, Jazny Colon , and Karissa Maldonado led the team in kills.

    Woodland Acres vs Gentry
    8th Black Team:
    On October 18th the WAMS 8th grade black team lost to Gentry Middle School in two sets, 22-25 and 20-25. The Lady Hornets played strong against an aggressive and well-skilled Gentry team. The Hornets battle each point and played out many long rallies. Karissa Maldonado, Linisa Hernandez and Jazny Colon led the team in kills while Josiara Hernandez anchored the team with her stellar defense. Garbiela Munoz earned a block against Gentry’s best hitter.

    Woodland Acres vs Cunningham
    7th Black Team:
    The Black team defeated Cunningham in two sets by the scores of 25-19 and 25-19. Joycelyn Martinez, Samantha Villarreal and Evelyn Tobias led the team in serving.

    8th Gold Team:
    The Gold team dominated in the Wildcats in a two set, 25-22, 25-14 victory, and a 15-9 obligatory third set win. Maritza Sanchez, Stephanie Teran, Claudia Huerta, Ashlynn Hadnott, Alyssa Hadnott, and Guadalupe Aceves all earned points off serve with Guadalupe serving off 11 points. Alyssa and Stephanie both dominated on the net with a solid attack game while Kayla Velenzuela, Carolina Jimenez and Dianney Hinojosa anchored the defense with their passing.

    8th Black Team:
    The Black team dominated the Wildcats in a two set 25-9 and a smashing 25-0 win. The third set was also played which WAMS won by a score of 15-8. The Lady Hornets played an aggressive, controlled first set followed by the total domination of the second set by the Hornets. The Wildcats had the first serve in set two but they immediately sided out putting the ball in the hands of Linisa Hernandez who proceeded to serve off the remaining 24 points. Linisa was outstanding, but the 24 points were not scored on just her serve; she was backed up by the outstanding defense of Josiara Hernandez and some aggressive offense by Karissa Maldonado. Linisa ended the game with 35 made serves along with a few kills. Karissa Maldonado set up the offense with confidence and set the tone early with her decision making. Genesis Heinemann served off seven consecutive points as well.

    The Woodland Acres volleyball program will be playing Gentry Middle School this next week.

    Woodland Acres vs Baytown
    7th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team defeated Baytown Juniors in two breathtaking sets winning each set 30-29. The entire team worked to set up and run their offense. Jocelyn Martinez served 11 consecutive serves in the first set and Ayana Oviedo finalized the set with strong serves. Emily Carmona served 8 points in the second set aided by the serving of Evelyn Tobias, Emily Zamora, Andrea Coreas, and Sofia Parrott.

    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team dominated the first game against Baytown Junior winning 25-14. The second and third set were a different story as the Hornets struggled receiving serve and serving losing 25-17 and 15-12. Claudia Huerta and Alyssa Hadnott each had kills and the week’s emphasis on passing showed in the first set.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team played another great match against a strong Baytown Junior team on the 4th of October. The Lady Hornets won in straight sets, 25-13 and 25-14 moving the team to 3-1 in district play and 5-2 for the season. The middles, Gabriela Munoz and Kimberly Nieto played amazing racking up multiple kills. Karissa Maldonado had a big kill in the match bringing the fans to their feet. Linisa Hernandez and Genesis Heinamen served hard and Josiara Hernandez continued with her incredible libero play.

    The Hornets will match volleyball skills against Cunningham Middle School Thursday, October 4th.

    Woodland Acres vs Highlands
    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team struggled against Highlands Thursday evening as they lost 23-25 and 19-25. The third set was played for extra play and WAMS lost it as well, 2-15. The young Hornets missed serves and struggled communicating. Alyssa Hadnott led the team with five attacks.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team dominated Highlands Middle School winning in straight sets 25-6 and 25-17. The first set started a little shaky but the ladies righted the ship and easily won the first set. Communication, movement and solid serving propelled the Hornets through set two and onto victory. Josiara Hernandez played amazing as the libero throughout the match. Karissa Maldonado served off nine serves, while Ashley Esquivel and Genesis Heinamen served off six serves each.

    Woodland Acres vs Horace Mann
    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team dominated the Horace Mann Gators on September 20th winning in straight sets. The Lady Hornets showcased teamwork and communication as they defeated the Gators 25-10 and 25-14. Linisa Hernandez and Karissa Maldonado ran the offense from their setting positions while the libero, Josiara Hernandez controlled the ball on defense. Genesis Heinaman played a solid match from the right side and on defense.

    The Hornets will match volleyball skills against Highland Middle School Thursday, September 27th.

    Woodland Acres vs North Shore
    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost in three sets to the Mustangs of North Shore (17-25, 25-8 and 4-15). The Hornets started strong in the first set until a young Mustang stepped back and served off 11 points in a row. Despite the first set troubles, the Hornets found their groove and owned the Mustangs in set two stinging them with a 25-8 win. The momentum was in the Hornets favor but a strong first server put the Hornets in a huge hole early in the third set. The deficit was too large to overcome and the Hornets fell in three sets to NSMS in their first match of the 2018 season. Linisa Hernandez and Kimberly Nieto both served off multiple points in the second set. Gaby Munoz commanded net from her middle blocker position while Josiara Hernandez did an amazing job passing as the libero.
