• Woodland Acres vs Galena Park
    7th Grade Gold Team:

    The Gold team tied 0-19 to the Galena Park Yellowjackets. The Hornets did see some gains by Adair Amezquita and Xavier Celya but they fell short of the end zone.

    7th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost 0-30. GPMS scored two quick touchdowns jumping on top of the Hornets early. The Hornets tried to put points on the board but simply failed to move the ball and stop the Yellowjackets.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team played their final game of the 2018 season under the bright lights of GPISD Stadium against their south side rivals, GPMS. The Hornets were hungry for a big victory as they started early with some positive rushing yard from scrimmage. Unfortunately, the Yellowjackets took control and shut down all the Hornets were trying to do defeating WAMS 35-0.

    Woodland Acres vs Cedar Bayou
    7th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team tied 0-0 against Cedar Bayou Middle School after a fiercely fought defensive contest. Alonzo Vazquez and Jaden Cantu aided the team in stopping the Cedar Bayou advances, but the Hornet offense remained stagnant all evening.

    7th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost a close contest 0-25 against Cedar Bayou Middle School. The young Hornets struggle most of the game but did manage to improve defensively in the second half. Joshuarael Ramirez, Angel Pina and Justin Carr made some tackles, and Andrew Guitierrez snatched a tough catch out of the air for a first down on a fourth down play.

    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost to Cedar Bayou by a score of 0-6 in a battle of the defenses. The Hornets came up with a fumble recovery and an interception by Chris Hagan during the game. Andrew Garcia made several solid tackles during the game keeping the Hornets in the game. Caleb Kirchner made two huge receptions for 40 yards but it was all too little too late.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost 0-49 against Cedar Bayou in a tough game in which the Hornets made some good plays on both offense and defense.

    Woodland Acres vs Gentry

    7th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team tied 0-0 against Gentry Middle School after a fiercely fought defensive contest. Alfredo Gaspar and Jesus Garcia shut down several Gentry drives as they racked up 4 sacks. Nathan Cardoza led the offense in moving the ball, but none of the drives ended in points.

    7th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost a close contest 0-6 against Gentry Middle School.

    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost to Gentry by a score of 0-30. The Hornets did make some defensive stops and had some positive plays on offense but in the end failed to put it all together for points.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost 0-32 despite an improved showing on both sides of the ball.

    Woodland Acres vs Cunningham
    7th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost to Cunningham 0-26. Leonardo Romero got the team started with several tackles on defense but the team wasn’t able to slow the Wildcat offense. Joshua Mancias and Nathan Cardozo made some plays on the offense.

    7th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost to Cunningham 0-26 but the young Hornets were fierce in their attempts to defend their end-zone. Angel Pina denied a CMS extra point with an interception. Joshua Real forced a fumble that led to a Hornet recovery and a 15 yard return.

    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost to CMS 0-34 in the cold and the rain Monday night.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Hornets’ Black team lost a tough game on a cold-foggy night at the North Shore Ninth Grade Campus. CMS defeated WAMS 68-0.

    On Deck:
    The WAMS football teams will complete their season versus the Galena Park Yellowjackets.

    Woodland Acres vs Highlands
    7th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost to Highlands Middle School 6-7 on a damp field. The Hornets kept the game close until the final quarter of play. Joshua Macias successfully connected with Fabian Calzada for a 10 yard touchdown in the last two minutes of the game. Unfortunately, the Hornets fell short on the extra point losing 6-7.

    7th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost to Highlands 6-20. The Hornets started off strong as Matthew Villalobos threw a 25 yard TD to Justin Carr taking a 6-0 lead. The Hornet’s offense and defense were rolling strong in the first half as the half ended with a 7-6 WAMS lead. Then in the second half the wheels came off and Highlands managed to take control winning the game 20-6. Justin Carr, Matthew Villalobos and Nathan Cardoza were the players of the game.

    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost to Highlands 0-6. The defense held off the Eagles offense for a majority of the game but in the end Highlands put 6 more points on the scoreboard. Servando DeLaSancha was the player of the game.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost to the Highlands Eagles on a muddy field. The game started rough as the Eagles scored quickly. The Hornets answered right back with a rushing touchdown by Freddy Teran. Austin Erebia stopped a highlands drive with an interception keeping the game tight early. The Hornets couldn’t keep the Eagles out of the end-zone as Highlands won 20-6.

    The WAMS football teams play against Baytown Middle School next week.

    Woodland Acres vs Horace Mann
    7th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost to Horace Mann 28-6. The Hornets rallied in the first half to score their first touchdown of the 2018 season. Fabian Calzada made several big plays for the young Hornets. Defensively, Tony Scott and Leonardo Romero played well for WAMS.

    7th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost to Horace Mann 26-6. The Hornets started off strong with a sack by Miguel Muro but Horace Mann managed to score first. Angel Pina made some big plays defensively and scored the only touchdown for the Hornets in the second half. Nathan Cardoza’s efforts on both sides of the ball played out positively for the Hornets.

    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team traveled to Horace Mann Middle School Monday night where the Hornets served up a defensive shut out, winning 6-0. The defense dominated from the outset forcing a turnover on downs. The offense used the momentum to march down the field and score off a rushing touchdown by Servando DeLaSancha. The Hornets defense made two goal line stands in a row to ensure the Hornets first victory of the season! Servando and Caleb Kirchner earned MVP honors for their play Monday night.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team faced the Horace Mann Gators and wrangled them into submission with a 21-0 victory. The game started with a bang as Jonathan Renteria intercepted a Gator pass and took it home for a TD. The excitement continued as Freddy Teran and Austin Erebia each rushed for touchdowns. Even the special teams got involved as Ivan Silva converted an extra point and a two point conversion off a broken play.

    Woodland Acres vs North Shore
    The Woodland Acres football program competed against North Shore Middle School, Tuesday September 18th.

    7th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost to North Shore 20-0. The Hornets struggled to get anything started on offense Tuesday night. The defense did get a sack by Joshua Macias and Xavier Celya made several solid tackles. Offensively, Francisco Elias played well for the Hornets and on defense Xavier Celya and Joshua Macias earned recognition.

    7th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost to North Shore Middle 20-0 as well Tuesday night. The quarterback, Ricardo Ferral had a big 30 yard gain but was later carried to an ambulance after a tackle in the end zone. The game was stopped early due to his injury.

    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost an exciting game to NSMS 15-0. The WAMS offense started with a bang as Servando DeLaSancha busted a 30 yard rush through the North Shore defense. The defense battled to keep the NSMS offense out of the end-zone but ended up giving up 15 points. Servando DeLaSancha and Andrew Garcia earned MVP recognition.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team went down in defeat Tuesday night by a score of 34-0. Both North Shore and Woodlands were ready to show off their hard work in the first 2018 season game. Austin Erebia zigged and zagged through the North Shore kick return team on the first kick off. The offense did make some big plays by Jonathan Renteria and Roger Barquera but failed to punch the ball across the goal line. The defense created a fumble early in the game but couldn’t manage that intensity throughout the game. Jonathan Renteria and Oscar Gonzalez were the MVP picks for the game.
