• Galena Park Middle
    The Woodland Acres 7th grade football team traveled down the road to Dement Field to match skills against Galena Park Middle School. It was a rainy evening setting the backdrop for the match up that ended with a 0-32 loss to GPMS. The offense initially found success in moving the ball led by quarterback Daniel Gomez and the ground game until a costly fumble shut down the series. Rafael Flores led the defense but GP simply continued to find ways into the end zone.

    The WAMS gold team played their final game of the 2019 season against the GPMS Jackets. The defense played solid led by the sack and fumble recovery of Mauricio Bermudez. The offense was anchored by the running of David Cid and Victoriano Aleman extended the field with his reception. Unfortunately, the Hornets never found the end zone and the game ended with a 0-14 loss. Mauricio Bermudez was the MVP of the game.

    The WAMS black team lost to the Jackets 0-26 despite some flashes of brilliance on both offense and defense. Nathan Cardoza put pressure on the Jacket defense with some big rushes early in the game. Joel Jimenez stretched the defense with a big reception. Justin Carr pulled down an interception and Yoshi Ramirez dominated from the linebacker position with some big league hits. Yoshi earned the MVP honors for his defensive play for the night.

    North Shore Middle
    The Woodland Acres football program competed against North Shore Middle School this week.

    7TH Grade Team:
    The 7th grade lost to North Shore, 0-35. The team started strong moving the ball down the field, first down by first down behind the hard work of Daniel Gomez. The Hornets were down 0-21 at the half but kept fighting throughout. Christian Boreggo and Daniel Gomez earned player of the game honors.

    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost to NSMS 0-32. The defense played well with Mauricio Bermudez continually breaking through the Mustang O-line making tackles in the backfield. Jesus Banda ran hard on offense making some plays up the middle. Mauricio Bermudez earned the MVP nod from the coaches.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost to NSMS 0-31. Carlos Reyes gave the Hornets some energy early with a huge interception but the Hornets couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity. Yoshi Ramirez made some big tackles but it wasn’t enough to slow down the Mustangs. Carlos Reyes and Justin Carr earned recognition for their play.

    C.E. King
    The Woodland Acres football program went up against the C.E. King Middle School football teams this week.

    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost 6-26 after a strong start on defense led by Jayden Cantu and Mauricio Bermudez. The game was back and forth early with Jesus Banda powering down the field from the back field. Jesus scored the only touchdown right before halftime. The Hornets fought but couldn’t maintain the intensity throughout the game.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Hornets’ Black team lost 6-20 in a physical game. Nathan Cardoza intercepted a pass then as quarterback ran in for the score. Andrew Gutierrez made a big reception on offense and made crucial tackles on defense.

    The WAMS football teams will take on North Shore Middle School next week.

    Null Middle
    7th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost to Null 0-50.  The Hornets struggled through the first half trying their best to contain the Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs had a 50-0 lead at intermission, but the second half the Hornets kept their composure and held the Bulldogs scoreless the second half.  Osvaldo and Gerardo played well on defense making several tackles.

    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost to CMS 0-28.  Gerardo Banda made some great tackles on defense, and Jose Zamora knocked down some passes.  Offensively, Jacob Sonnier completed passes to Jesus Banda.  Gerardo Banda was the MVP for the night.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Hornets’ Black team lost to Null 0-41.  The offense was able to move the ball on ground by Francisco Martinez with some help by his offensive lineman, Diego Perez, Danny Gallegos, Alonso Vasquez and Daniel Trigueros.  Yoshi Ramirez made some big hits on defense and Carlos Reyes got to the quarterback causing a fumble.  Andrew Gutierrez was the MVP for the game.

    The WAMS football teams will battle CE King Middle School next week.

    Cunningham Middle
    7th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team lost to Cunningham 0-44. The Hornets started strong containing the Wildcats initially, but the Wildcats were able to eventually get their offense started scoring 44 points. Daniel Gomez and Gerardo made some solid tackles leading the defense.

    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team lost to CMS 0-20. Daniel Zayes played hard for the Hornet defense making some big tackles in the first half of the game. Jacob Sonnier broke up a fourth down pass attempt keeping the Wildcats out of the end zone. Jesus Banda and Leonardo Romero moved the offense but not well enough to punch the ball into the end zone.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Hornets’ Black team were lively on offense with Nathan Cardoza and Ricardo Ferral reeling off some positive rushes up the middle and off the side of the defense. Unfortunately, the rushing wasn’t enough to push the ball into the end zone as the Hornets lost 28-0.

    Anthony Aguirre
    8th Grade Gold Team:
    The Gold team played their second game of the season against the Aguirre Bulldogs Tuesday night. The Hornets were looking to bounce back from a defeat last week but fell short 0-13. The Hornets played well as Mauricio Bermudez and Jayden Cantu fired up the defense with some big tackles.

    8th Grade Black Team:
    The Black team faced off against Anthony Aguirre Middle School in their second game of the season. The Hornets looked up to the challenge with a big defensive stop early by Francisco Martinez. Both the offensive and defensive side of the ball played hard with Joshuarael Ramirez making some great hits from the linebacker position. Joel Jimenez reeled in multiple passes from quarterback from Nathan Cardoza. WAMS played solid even though the game ended with a 0-42 defeat.

    The WAMS football teams play against Cunningham Middle School next week.

    Galena Park Middle School
    On September 10th Woodland Acres Middle School hosted GPMS in their first game of the season.  The gold team lost 0-20.  Jesus Banda ran the ball well while Jacob Sonnier pulled in an interception.  The black team lost 0-26.  Tony Scott ran well and controlled the offense at quarterback.  The Hornets will face off against Alice Johnson for their next contest.
