Julie Rojas was the leading scorer with 5 points, Jackie Hidalgo led in steals with 4 and Destiny Morales led on the boards with 6 rebounds.

Then the Jackets went on a rampage led by Julie Rojas and Jayleen Montano in the second quarter scoring 22 points. The second half was a rough half as the Indians’ big girl found some space and led the Indians in a 41 point half. Galena Park played a solid a game but the Indians came out with the 49-71 win. GPHS vs Goose Creek
    Freshman Team:
The young Lady Jackets found themselves in a “Battle Royale” against a Memorial team that suited only 6 players. The Lady Jackets managed to maintain no more than a 3 point margin throughout the game until the final seconds of the game when Memorial took the lead on a made free throw. With 3 seconds left in the game the Yellowjackets found Iris Rojas on a break-away down the sideline that ended with a buzzer beating lay-up and a 34-33 victory! Iris led all scorers with 27 points and was the player of the game.

    Junior Varsity Team:
The JV team played a solid first quarter keeping the Memorial teams’ offense under wraps with 10 points while scoring 9 points themselves. The Yellowjackets did manage to tighten up their defense in the second half but a much bigger and much more physical Memorial team just kept pounding away ending the game with a 15-83 victory. Freshman, Haven Hernandez was the player of the game as she had to battle the “bigs” down low where she came up with 7 rebounds, 1 steal, and 6 blocked shots. Aniya Eason led the G.P. scorers with 4 points.

    GPHS vs Friendswood
    Freshman Team:
Both the Texas City freshman team and the G.P. freshman team found it difficult to get any offense started early Friday afternoon as their first quarter of play ended with a 2-8 Mustang advantage. Unfortunately the scoring woes continued throughout the game for the Jackets while the Mustangs slowly found their offensive groove. The game ended with a 36-51 Friendswood victory. Elaine Umana and Iris Rojas each scored 13 points for the Yellowjackets.

    Junior Varsity Team:
The JV team started off slow scoring only 2 points in the first quarter and giving up 25; the ladies managed to double their score in the second and the third quarters but allowed Friendswood to score 31 and 11 points respectively. Turnovers plagued the Yellowjackets throughout as they racked up 15 turnovers and only 19 total points giving Friendswood an easy 19-79 win. Daphne Bustos led the Jackets in scoring with 7 points and led in rebounding with 8 rebounds. Isabel Alvarez contributed another 5 rebounds despite her struggling with fouls most of the game.

    Varsity Team:
The varsity game ended with a Friendswood victory by a score of 14-43, but Coach Fountain and the Lady Jackets took some consolation in the fact that they held a fast and aggressive offense to 43 points. The Lady Jackets lacked a point guard Friday afternoon as both of Coach Fountain’s point ladies were out with injuries. Senior, Gisel Marroquin did her best but Friendswood’s press made her job a difficult one all afternoon. The Lady Jackets were held scoreless in the first quarter but found some relief at the free throw line in the second quarter giving them 2 points to Friendswood’s 23. The scoring woes continued through the second half as Friendswood held G.P. to 7 points in the third and 5 points in the fourth. Gisel Marroquin led the Yellowjackets with 6 points while Adriauna Chatmon and Natalie Macias crashed the boards ripping down 6 and 7 rebounds.

    GPHS vs Texas City

    GPHS vs Grand Oaks
    Freshman Team:
The freshman team did not play Friday night.

    Junior Varsity Team:
The JV team played aggressive and never fear taking the shot, but the Lady Jackets couldn’t seem to find the basket until late in the third quarter. Despite the early struggles from the field they Jackets kept the game close with aggressive defense by Deysy Rodriguez and Jessica Espinoza. Unfortunately, the slow offensive start put the Jackets too far behind to finish off the Tigers as they lost 41-54. Jessica Espinoza led the Yellowjackets with 12 points which were the result of 4 3-point buckets. Deysy Rodriguez scored another 10 points and Brianna DeLaTorre pulled down 7 rebounds.

    Varsity Team:
The varsity team started slow scoring only 8 points in the first quarter, but their defense held Grand Oaks to 8 points as well. Grand Oaks found their big girl in the paint in the second quarter where she found easy buckets. That dominating post play gave the Tigers a 23-17 lead going into the half time intermission. The Lady Jackets fell back into a tight zone defense in the third quarter to help against the big post play which kept the Grand Oak center at bay and led to some offense for the Jackets. The score was 35-31 at the end of three in favor of the Jackets. The fourth quarter was low scoring but Gisel Marroquin brought some much needed energy to the floor and kept the Jackets within striking distance all quarter. Finally, with 6 seconds left on the clock the Lady Jackets had a side-line inbounds play drawn up by Coach Fountain that worked perfectly. Freshman, Julie Rojas took the ball down the baseline and nailed a 5 foot jumper with 1 second remaining. Grand Oaks fell short on their attempt for a buzzer beating shot and the Jackets won 40-39. Jackie Hidalgo and Aniya Eason led the team with 9 points each and they each added a few steals to the effort. Haven Hernandez came off the bench in the second half and snatched 7 rebounds aiding the Yellowjacket victory.

    GPHS vs La Porte
    Freshman Team:
The freshman team started off on fire as Iris Rojas and Elaine Umana created points off aggressive defense giving the Lady Jackets an early 8-3 lead. The second half was more of the first, defense and scoring that led to a 33-19 victory for the freshman Jackets. Iris Rojas scored 15 points and Elaine Umana added another 10 points.

    Junior Varsity Team:
The JV team managed to keep the game close through the first two quarters of the game; even battling back to a 20-20 tie right before the first half ended. With momentum on their side the Yellowjackets should have taken control of the game as the third quarter began, but instead it seemed that the Yellowjackets lost their groove. LaPorte pulled out a close 41-37 win. Deysy Rodriguez led the team with 13 points.

    Varsity Team:
The varsity team struggled from the field for the entire game as the lost their first home game. The Lady Jackets had some positive moments from their young guard Juliana Rojas as she controlled the offense giving G.P. opportunities to score, but the Jackets just couldn’t get the ball through the hoop. Aniya Eason led the Yellowjackets in scoring with 13 points and Destiny Morales led the team in rebounding with 5 rebounds.

    On Deck:
