    Q: When will I get my Skyward username and password?
    A:  The Skyward login information will be emailed to parents/guardians during the week of July 13th. The login information will be the same as the 2019-2020 school year.

    Q: When is Returning Student Verification (RSV)?
    A:  Returning Student Verification will be completed online. The dates to complete RSV in Skyward are July 20- July 24.

    Q: What documents are needed for Returning Student Verification?
    A: To complete RSV, you will need to upload the following documents:

    • Photo I.D.;
    • Utility bill (gas/electric/water; valid bill within the past 30 days, no disconnect notices); and
    • Lease or approved Residency Affidavit email.

    Q: What if I do not have a bill (gas/electric/ water) in my name and live with someone else?
    A: If you do not have a bill in your name that corresponds to an address within the Galena Park I.S.D. attendance zone, you are required to complete the Residency Affidavit request form. Please click the link to view the Residency Affidavit webpage: https://www.galenaparkisd.com/Page/8345

    Q: What if I am not the parent or legal guardian of the child(ren) for whom I assume responsibility?
    A: If you are not the parent or legal guardian whom you wish to enroll, you will need to complete the Parent Assumption request form. Please click the link to view the Parent Assumption webpage: https://www.galenaparkisd.com/Page/8309

    Q: When is New Student Enrollment?
    A: New Student Enrollment will be completed online and will begin August 1st. Campus support for New Student Enrollment will be available August 4-6, 2020.

    Q: What documents are required to enroll a new student?
    A: To enroll your student(s), you will need to upload the following documents:

    • Photo I.D.;
    • Proof of authority to enroll (student’s birth certificate, child custody order, legal court order, or foster care paperwork);
    • Utility bill (gas/electric/water, valid within 30 days, no disconnect notices);
    • Lease or approved Residency Affidavit;
    • Previous school records; and
    • Immunization records

    Q: How can I find out what campus my child is zoned to attend?
    A: Please visit the Galena Park I.S.D. webpage, click the school bus icon located in the center of the page, and lastly, click Infofinder on the left side of the screen. 

    Q: If I live outside of Galena Park I.S.D. and would like for my child to attend a GPISD school, how can I transfer my child into the District?
    A: Student transfer requests for out-of-district students for the 2020-2021 school year will open on July 20, 2020. 

     

    HEALTH AND SAFETY 

    Q: Will students be required to wear masks and gloves?
    A: Galena Park I.S.D. will require all District personnel and 1st through 12th grade students to wear masks/ face coverings while inside a GPISD facility. Parents and other visitors will also be required to wear masks/face coverings while inside a GPISD facility. Gloves will not be required. 

    Q: Will the District provide a mask to all GPISD students and staff members?
    A: 
    The District will provide one cloth mask with the GPISD logo to every student and staff member. Individuals may use the District issued mask or a personal mask of his/her choice.

    Q: Will students be tested for COVID-19?
    A: No. We currently do not have plans to test students for COVID-19. 

    Q: Will temperature checks be required?
    A: Galena Park I.S.D will not take temperatures of staff or students on a daily basis. We encourage all staff members to self screen for COVID symptoms each day before entering a GPISD facility. All District nurses have been trained to recognize COVID-19 symptoms. Any staff member or student exhibiting flu-like symptoms will be closely monitored and advised to stay home. During the COVID pandemic, any individual with a fever of 100 degrees or higher will be sent home. The individual will not be allowed to return to school until they are fever-free without the use of fever reduction medication for at least 72 hours. 

    Q: How will staff members determined if a student has a fever while in school?
    A: Though we are not implementing mass temperature checks, students will still be allowed to see the school nurse if they are not feeling well or require medical attention. GPISD will focus heavily on educating students on preventing the spread of COVID-19 and staying home when sick or experiencing possible COVID-19 symptoms.

    Q: Will we be notified if a student/staff member tests positive for COVID-19?
    A: Galena Park I.S.D will communicate information as necessary to all students, staff and parents regarding the possible exposure to COVID, including testing positive for COVID, symptomatic for COVID or has been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID. 

    Q: What will happen if a student tests positive for COVID-19 or is exposed to COVID-19?
    A: Galena Park I.S.D. will follow all guidelines in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Harris County Public Health in determining exclusion of infected or exposed students and staff.

    Q: What additional safety measures are being implemented in GPISD to prevent the spread of COVID?
    A: In addition to requiring wearing masks/ face coverings, GPISD Custodial Services cleans and disinfects all District facilities and frequently touched surfaces and objects on a routine basis. Nurses and staff will work collaboratively to educate the school community on the importance of social distancing, frequent handwashing, good hygiene practices and staying home when ill. Additional sanitization will be used in areas believed to have been occupied by students/staff who have tested positive for COVID, symptomatic for COVID or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID. 

    Q: What should I do if my child or someone in my household is believed to have COVID?
    A: If someone in your household is believed to have COVID, the exposed person should not report to a District facility. Please notify the campus principal or school nurse by phone as soon as possible. We strongly encourage you to follow-up with your child’s pediatrician or family doctor for further COVID guidance. 

    Q: How should a parent notify the school of their child's non-participation with online classes as a result of illness?
    A: Parents are encouraged to remain in constant communication with their child's teacher(s) regarding all academic concerns. After reporting the absence to the teacher, parents should report any possible COVID-19 related health matters using the GPISD COVID-19 Student Reporting Line at 832-386-1091. This line will become available for use in mid-August.

    Q: What would be considered a COVID outbreak?
    A: Harris County Public Health serves as our local health authority and will provide guidance in determining the number of cases that constitute as an outbreak based on our enrollment at any particular time. 

    Q: What will happen if a large number of students or staff become ill as a result of COVID-19?
    A: Galena Park I.S.D. will follow all guidelines in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Harris County Public Health in determining exclusion of infected or exposed students and staff. 

     

    Q: Will the school nurse be able to administer medication to my child during the school day?
    A: Yes, all prescription medication, provided in the original container, will be administered with a doctor’s order and signed by a parent/ legal guardian.

    Q: Should I get a flu vaccine?
    A: Yes. Although you can still contract the flu after receiving the vaccine, it can prevent serious illnesses, infections and hospitalizations resulting from flu illnesses.

    Q: Will students be required to be immunized before returning to school?
    A: Yes, routine immunizations in young children are critical to maintain at any time, but more crucial than ever during a pandemic. The usual childhood diseases remain present and we must protect our children against communicable illnesses and diseases. Please contact your child’s school nurse or your pediatrician/medical professional if you have any questions regarding whether or not your child is current with his/her immunizations.

     

    Q: Will GPISD be responsible for hospital bills related to COVID-19?
    A: Galena Park I.S.D. cannot be held liable for any medical costs incurred by students or staff as a result of COVID-19 related health matters.
