The image shows a man wearing a blue medical scrub top and glasses, with a neutral expression on his face.

Gerardo Gonzales is a 2010 graduate of North Shore Senior High School. Immediately after graduation, he did not waste a moment and began pursuing higher education by enrolling in a two-year program in Eye Care Technology at San Jacinto College.

Gerardo and his wife, also an NSSHS graduate, enrolled in the program for the job opportunities and high demand. The program was hands-on, which he liked, so completing it soon became his goal.

In May 2012, he earned his Associate's Degree in Applied Science, and just a week later, he was hired at Eye Excellence in St. Luke’s Tower. While working there, he received his certification as an ophthalmic assistant. Gerardo currently works with an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) to provide patient care, performing various eye-related clinical functions. He also assists ophthalmologists in caring for patients by taking histories, performing various procedures and tests, and preparing patients for examination. His work provides the ophthalmologist with important information to help diagnose and treat patients.

There are so many things Gerardo loves about his job, but the most interesting one is his good fortune to know and work for such a well-known doctor, Dr. Mary T. Green, M.D., in Houston. He also enjoys learning about the different types of eye diseases.

Gerardo has decided to continue his higher education at San Jacinto College this summer and then transfer to the University of Houston to pursue his bachelor’s degree.

During his free time, Gerardo enjoys fishing and spending time with his two children.

We wish Gerardo the best as he embarks on his next exciting adventure! He certainly has made GPISD proud!
