Whitney Miller

Meet Whitney Miller, a proud Galena Park ISD (GPISD) alumna whose journey from the Eastside to anchoring weekend newscasts at WWL‑TV is a testament to the power of confidence, encouragement, and the support she received within Galena Park ISD. Whitney attended Cunningham Middle School, North Shore High School, and North Shore Senior High School, graduating with the Class of 2005.
During her years in GPISD, Whitney was shaped by educators who recognized her talents and created space for her to shine. Her favorite teachers and mentors include Dr. Kareen Brown, Sgt. Calhoun, Maj. Young, Mr. Allen, Principal Moore, and Mrs. Kay. Their belief in her helped build the foundation for her voice, confidence, and leadership. Reflecting on her experience, Whitney shares: “GPISD allowed me to be myself. The educators I mentioned above really poured into me and let me shine where I had strength and talent.”
Today, Whitney serves as a Weekend Anchor and Reporter for WWL‑TV in New Orleans, where she has been informing and inspiring viewers since joining the station in December 2022. Her career path spans across the country—from launching her journalism career at Your Alaska Link in Alaska, to producing and reporting at FOX 26 in Houston, anchoring at KBTX in Bryan, Texas, and reporting at WCPO-TV in Cincinnati.
Whitney is a graduate of The Ohio State University, where she earned a degree in Public Affairs Journalism, and DePaul University, where she received her Master of Arts in Broadcast Journalism. Outside the newsroom, she enjoys crafting, spending time with her poodle Derwin, and celebrating her literary achievement as the author and illustrator of the children’s book Henry Boyd’s Freedom Bed.
GPISD is proud to honor Whitney Miller as a Black History Month spotlight and celebrate her outstanding achievements, leadership, and commitment to our community.
