Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Nicolas Esparza discovered a passion for aviation at an early age. When asked in middle school what he wanted to be when he grew up, he replied without hesitation, “a pilot.” The school newspaper even featured Nic and his future career choice in an article titled “He’ll Be Leaving on a Jet Plane,” capturing the childhood dream that would evolve into a lifelong calling.

His journey began right here in Galena Park ISD, where his father and brother also graduated. He attended Havard and Williamson Elementary, then Cobb Sixth Grade Campus, North Shore Middle School, and ultimately graduated in the top 5% of the North Shore Senior High School Class of 2017. Nicolas continued his academic journey at the University of Oklahoma, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management with a focus on flight operations and a minor in Business in 2021. A strong educational foundation and the support of a nurturing community were definitive in his continued success.  

In 2024, Nicolas married his high school sweetheart, Alexis Hernandez, also a top 5% graduate of the North Shore Senior High School Class of 2017. Alexis earned her Bachelor's degree in Public Health and a minor in Business from Texas A&M University in 2021. She is a Customer Success Manager and has built her own successful career in pharmaceutical sales. Alexis's parents and brother are graduates of Galena Park ISD, and her younger brother is a current student there. They continue to reside in the Houston area and remain closely tied to the community.

Today, Nicolas is literally and figuratively soaring to new heights as a private pilot with nearly 1,000 flight hours. His success reminds us that the sky is not the limit when hard work, passion, and commitment align. During Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor not only his professional accomplishments but also the representation and inspiration he provides to young students with childhood dreams just like his.
