5 X 5 Accelerated Plan Support
Welcome to the Galena Park ISD 5 X 5 Accelerated Plan Support webpage. This page describes how the 5 X 5 model extends class periods to roughly 80 minutes while preserving semester‑ or year‑long courses, and how schools can use double‑blocking (scheduling the same class on both A and B days) where appropriate. You’ll find clear guidance on planning, examples of double‑block use, and quick links for counselors, department teams, and campus leaders to design schedules that meet student needs and district goals.
Key benefits of the 5 X 5 Accelerated Plan include expanded course choices—more access to AP, concurrent enrollment, CTE pathways, Performing Arts, Fine Arts, and other electives—while still fulfilling graduation requirements.
The model builds in intervention and support through dedicated remediation and conceptual‑understanding courses, plus study‑hall time for homework and projects. Double‑blocking offers substantial additional instructional minutes for critical‑need classes, supports CTE alignment and course sharing (broadcasting) between high schools, and gives teacher teams the flexibility to decide how best to use extended time to address local needs. Together, these features help make the district’s 100% graduation goal more achievable.
What “double‑blocked” means:
A double‑blocked class meets on both A and B days, providing extended, consecutive instructional time. Schools select which courses to double‑block (for example, targeted math support, core content, or other priority subjects) based on student data and campus priorities. Use the links and resources on this page to review scheduling examples, planning checklists, and contact points for support as you design your campus plan.
This video series will explain what the 5x5 Accelerated Plan is, how it works, and how it benefits students.
