CTE Certifications:
TEC §39.053 requires the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to account for high school students who earn an industry-based certification as one indicator within the student achievement domain of the state's public school accountability system. The purpose of the IBC list is to identify certifications that prepare students for success in the workforce, military, or postsecondary education. Go here for more information
TSIA 2:
The TSI Assessment (TSIA) is an exam designed to help determine if students are ready for college-level coursework in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Students entering college for the first time in Texas are required to take the TSI Assessment to determine his/her readiness for college-level work. Students who meet the exemption requirements listed below are exempt from taking the TSI Assessment. Based on performance, students may enroll in college-level courses without needing remediation. Mandatory Pre-Assessment Activity
Before taking the TSI Assessment, students must complete a Pre-Assessment Activity. The test administering campus is required to provide the Pre-Assessment Activity and document student participation. It is a requirement for students to complete this activity before taking the test.
The Pre-Assessment Activity for the Texas Success Initiative Assessment allows the following:

Students will learn about the information assessed on the TSI Assessment and why it is important to do well.

Students will be informed about the exemption criteria.

Students will get practice with the same test questions.

Students will find out about testing times and locations.

Students will receive a certificate for completing the mandatory activity.
Passing Standard
College Ready Scores
TSIA2: ELAR - 945 or higher and/or Diagnostic Score of 5 or higher; Essay - 5 or higher; Math - 950 or higher
Releasing TSIA2 scores to other institutions
Students who take the TSI Assessment at North Shore Senior School or Galena Park High School may have their scores released to other colleges or universities. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the College Board require written consent from the student in order for another institution to retrieve test scores from Galena Park ISD. This process can take up to 72 hours to complete. A completed TSI Cross-Institutional Score Report Request Form from the requesting college or university must be sent to the Testing Center at the college/university.
To locate this form for a particular college/university, use Google and search TSI Cross-Institutional Score Report Request Form along with the name of the college or university.
College Prep Testing:
PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)
On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, the highest-ranking students in the 10th and 11th grades will be given the opportunity to take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test administered by the College Board. The PSAT/NMSQT has been designed to mirror the SAT. The PSAT/NMSQT measures the reading, math, and writing skills needed for college and career planning. Students can prepare for this exam by reviewing the information in the PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide, which will be sent home with them prior to the test administration. 11th graders who score well may qualify for National Merit Recognition and Scholarships. The ACT Test
The ACT is one of the leading college admissions tests in the U.S., measuring what students have learned in high school to determine their academic readiness for college.
Students will use the RevTrak system to pay on the galenaparkisd.com website. Once students have paid, he/she will be registered for the school day test. Go here for more information
