Welcome to the Galena Park ISD Bilingual/ESL Program Webpage

The goal of our Bilingual/ESL Program is to empower students to become bicultural, biliterate, and balanced bilinguals. Through an additive model that values students’ home language and culture, we strive to maximize their linguistic and academic abilities so that learners reach advanced levels of competence. Students in the program gain not only two-language literacy and academic achievement but also a deeper understanding, tolerance, appreciation, and respect for other languages and perspectives.

Galena Park ISD implements a One‑Way Dual Language model for English Language Learners in grades PK–5. This unique learning environment provides content and literacy instruction in both English and Spanish, teaching through language rather than only teaching a language. Our teachers use sheltered instruction and literacy‑based English language development strategies to support students as they grow into fluent readers, writers, and speakers in two languages and reach academic performance at or above grade level. The program emphasizes hiring highly qualified, passionate educators and measures success by bilingual literacy, academic growth, and positive cross‑cultural attitudes—helping every student capitalize on their strengths to become truly bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural.
