Early Childhood
Welcome to Pre‑K at Galena Park Independent School District!
Our Early Childhood Department is devoted to creating meaningful, developmentally appropriate experiences for every Pre‑Kindergarten child. Pre‑K is an exciting first step in your child’s learning journey. Our programs help children develop essential skills—early literacy, expanded vocabulary, social‑emotional growth, and kindergarten readiness—through engaging, research‑based lessons aligned with Texas Pre‑K and Texas Education Agency guidelines.
High‑quality Pre‑K makes a big difference. Children who attend strong Pre‑K programs enter school ready to learn, gain confidence, and become successful, curious learners. These benefits extend beyond the classroom: research shows Pre‑K supports long‑term academic and life success.
We partner closely with families to support each child’s social, emotional, and academic development. While the Texas Education Agency does not require children to be fully potty‑trained before entering a state‑funded Pre‑K program, we strongly encourage families to work on potty training before the school year begins. We offer practical supports and resources, including tips, videos, recommended children’s books, and community links to help with this transition.
Registration for Pre‑K and Kindergarten is open for the 2025–2026 school year. Our enrollment process includes clear eligibility criteria and required documentation (income, language, military, foster care, and state-award qualifiers, where applicable). Visit our New Student Enrollment and Pre‑K Registration pages for application steps, flyers, and detailed instructions.
We’re excited to welcome your family and to work together to give every child a strong start.

Resources for Potty Training
In Galena Park ISD, our educators partner with families to ensure that children feel supported in all aspects of their development; socially, emotionally, and academically. We understand that each child may reach major milestones at different times, including using the toilet independently.
The Texas Education Agency states that it is not mandatory that children be fully potty-trained before entering a state-funded, public Pre-K program. However, it is STRONGLY encouraged that families work diligently on potty training before the start of the school year.

Family Engagement Page
To enhance the quality of education for Pre-Kindergarten students in GPISD, we encourage the active participation of parents, teachers, and community members. By engaging them in meaningful ways, we provide opportunities for input that help shape our school community and the services we offer. To support this collaboration, we have developed a Family Engagement Plan to strengthen partnerships among all stakeholders.
