It is with great pride and enthusiasm that Dr. John Moore, Superintendent of Schools, presents the 2024–2025 Galena Park ISD State of the District, themed “Building on a Legacy.” “This year, our theme captures the essence of our district’s enduring commitment to excellence and our continuous effort to create a brighter future for all of our students,” Dr. Moore shares. From our humble beginnings in 1912 with a one-room schoolhouse known as the Clinton School—now the site of Galena Park Elementary—to the establishment of our district name in 1928–1929 and early expansion to 26 schools and facilities, Galena Park ISD has a proud history rooted in growth, resilience, and community. For more than a century, we have remained dedicated to nurturing generations of young minds and enriching the educational experience through strong curriculum, student activities, wellness, safety, and meaningful community engagement.

Today, Galena Park ISD serves 21,366 students across 26 campuses and facilities, supported by 3,312 employees, nearly 23% of whom are GPISD alumni—a testament to the lasting impact of our schools. Our district’s excellence is reflected in honors such as the H-E-B Excellence in Education Large District Award and Dr. Moore being named Region 4 Superintendent of the Year. With more than $2 million in student and teacher scholarships awarded annually and the successful approval of a $530 million bond package, our community continues to invest boldly in the future. We invite you on a journey through GPISD’s proud legacy—exploring the heart and soul of our district through vibrant student activities, exceptional fine arts, strong community partnerships, and outstanding academics. Join us as we celebrate the achievements and traditions that make Galena Park ISD a beacon of excellence and a great place to be.
