North Shore Senior High Tennis

  • Spring Tennis Season Comes to a Close

All three of our Spring Tennis teams had a fun and educational season! We traveled to many different schools, played against opponents we knew as well as new faces, and won plenty of matches! Congratulations to senior Naya Edwards, who finished 4th in District 21-6A Girls Singles, and sophomore Osvaldo Castro, who finished 4th in JV Boys Singles. Coach Banks, Coach Schultz, and this year's freshmen, sophomores, and juniors wish the best to all our graduating seniors! We are looking ahead to summer camps, summer practices, and Team Tennis 2019!

    Beginners Visit New Caney

Our first year tennis players had the opportunity to learn what Spring Tennis is all about on November 28 when they traveled to the New Caney ISD Beginner's Tournament. The freshmen did a great job in their first competition, with Joel Gallegos and Hendry Sanchez winning 3rd place in a Boys Doubles, Jacqueline Gurrola 4th in B Girls Singles, and Desianay Robinson 2nd in the consolation bracket of A Girls Singles. Congratulations to all!

Team Tennis Season Closes vs Channelview

The Varsity Mustangs' Team Tennis season drew to a close with our final 21-6A match against Channelview. The visiting team was small and had several rookie players, so NS was able to pull out a quick 17-2 victory. This match landed the Mustangs a 5th place finish in District 21-6A Team Tennis, one win short of a trip to the playoffs. Several parents, Dr. Coleman, and various other friends of the team were able to be at NS for these closing matches, and the team thanks you all for your support! Now it is time to get ready for Spring Tennis....

    Mustangs Go to United

On Tuesday, October 2, our Varsity Mustangs traveled the long road to Beaumont to face off against the United HS Tennis Team. As United is a new school, our players were not sure what to expect; however, they "took care of business" right away. NS had the lead 12-0 as the first round of matches ended, and finished the day with a 19-0 win. Congratulations Mustangs!

    JV Gains Experience

On Thursday, September 27, the JV Mustangs had a new opportunity to play during Team Tennis season. JV players from Sterling, LaPorte, and North Shore met at LaPorte high school for a tri-school scrimmage match. All our JV girls and one freshman boy were able to play at least one match against players from one of the other two schools. It was an awesome opportunity to learn and gain experience. Some of the matches were tough, and congratulations go out to all those who won theirs - with a special cheer for Destinee Bogany, who scored wins in singles and in doubles with partner Kandy Cortez; and Jazmon DeRousselle for her hard-fought singles win.

    Westbook Visits NS

After a tough loss in Baytown on Monday...Tuesday, September 25 the Westbrook Varsity Tennis Team came to town. The Mustangs put up a tough fight, going to third-set super tiebreakers in several of the day's matches, but in the end we could not pull out the win, with a final score of 6-13. District play will soon start winding down, but not before a long trip to Beaumont on Tuesday, October 2 to face off against United. Wish our Tennis Team well!

Girls Come Out Strong in Baytown

After a rain storm caused a postponement from Friday, the Mustangs finally met the Sterling Rangers in Baytown on Monday, September 24. The Sterling boys were tough and won all their initial Doubles matches, but the Lady Mustangs came out swinging and won 2 of the 3 Girls Doubles matches. Great job Enyssa Alvarado/Marbella DelaTorre and Brenda Flores/Casandra Leal! This was followed by a match-closing singles win from Casandra Leal. In the end, the Rangers took the match 3-16, but we are so proud of our ladies for their hard work and contribution this week! The NS Varsity will face Westbrook at home on Tuesday, September 25, and we hope to see you out there supporting your Mustang Tennis Team!

    Mustangs Face Deer Park

The Deer came to North Shore on Tuesday, September 18 to challenge our Varsity Mustangs. It was a tough night for the Mustangs, with Deer Park taking an early lead in all the doubles matchups. Our Number One Boys and Girls players came out with a win in Singles competition, which was a huge blow to DP. However, it was not enough to pull out a win on the evening, with North Shore falling 2-17. Congratulations to our "number ones" Naya Edwards and Matthew Stith on their awesome singles wins! Next up, another tough matchup versus the Sterling Rangers in Baytown. Good Luck Mustangs!

    CE King Falls to NS

On Wednsday, September 12, the CE King Varsity Tennis Team came to face off against the Mustangs for week 2 of District 21-6A Tennis. The Mustangs got off to an early lead, winning the first 6 doubles matches, then went on to complete the evening with a 17-2 win over the Panthers.  Great job North Shore!!! Next week Deer Park comes to NSSH for a tough district matchup, so please come out and support your Varsity Mustangs.

    Varsity vs. LaPorte

On Friday, September 7, the Varsity team played their first District 21-6A Team Tennis match at LaPorte High School. This match is traditionally one of the closest for North Shore, and one of the most improtant in district standings. Though the Mustangs played hard, LaPorte had a strong start, winning all the doubles matches. Some of the NS singles players finished strong, but it was not enough to pull out a win and we finished the day 3-16. Congratulations to Matthew Stith, Casandra Leal, and Emily Flores on their singles wins!

Team Tennis 2018 Kicks off on August 30 at GPHS!

After thunderstorms delayed the match scheduled for August 16, the Varsity Mustangs rescheduled their opener against Galena Park HS. We faced our in-district rivals on August 30, 4:00 PM at GPHS. The Mustangs came out strong, took an early lead, and kept going! The final score was 17-2 and the team was very proud and excited for a great season opener.
