BCBSTX Negotiation with Memorial Hermann
April 1, 2026
Hello TRS-Active Care Medical Plan Participants,
Today, you may have received communication from Memorial Hermann that "Effective April 1, Memorial Hermann Health System is out of network for most Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas plans."
Memorial Hermann has gone out of network as of today for most BCBSTX accounts except for a few public sector clients, including TRS, which they have agreed to a 30-day extension, through April 30, 2026.
In their communication, Memorial Hermann has included the exceptions in several of their FAQs (e.g. What hospitals and practices are impacted? Which employers are temporarily exempted and for how long? and Why are some employers receiving a 30-day extension while others are not?). You can check out Memorial Hermann's updates at https://memorialhermann.org/about-us/bcbstx-negotiations.
For the latest updates on the negotiations and its impact on your TRS-ActiveCare coverage, please bookmark and frequent the BCBSTX Negotiations Website at https://www.bcbstx.com/trsactivecare/coverage/memorialhermann.
Participants are our priority. BCBSTX wants to reach an agreement that will continue to give you access to Memorial Hermann doctors and hospitals at fair prices.
Important action for participants currently receiving care at Memorial Hermann:
If you are currently receiving ongoing medical care from Memorial Hermann providers, you may be authorized to continue receiving care at Memorial Hermann at in-network rates, even if they become out-of-network. We encourage you to complete and submit the attached Continuity of Care Request Form today in the event that an agreement is not reached to avoid gaps in care. You can fax, mail or upload the form to your Blue Access Members portal or we can submit it on your behalf.
