Medication Guidelines
Prescription medication
Medication must be brought in to school by an adult. It must be prescribed and the pharmacy label either on the box or the medication itself. Physician’s request for medication form and parent permission must be filled out by the physician and parent in order for the nurse to administer the medication.
Over the counter medication
Medication must be in an original sealed container with expiration date clearly indicated. Expired medication may not be given to students. Staff must follow the manufacturer’s instructions printed on the container. (This includes the age of child, the dose for age of child, indications for use, length of time to administer before seeking advice of physician.)
- All medication to be administered during school hours shall be delivered to the clinic by the parent or a responsible adult.
- Students shall not carry medication on the school bus and shall not deliver medication to the clinic.
- It is the responsibility of the parent to see that the medication is delivered to and picked up from the school by a responsible adult at the end of the day or the week, as appropriate.
- The district’s policy is available for review in the student handbook.
Students are not allowed to carry any medication with them at school.
