Welcome to Science

  • Philosophy of GPISD Science
The mission of the Galena Park Independent School District is to prepare students to become productive citizens and lifelong learners. We feel that by engaging our students in exciting investigations that incorporate higher level critical thinking skills, we can ensure success for all of our students.

Furthermore, science is an extension of everyone's natural curiosity and is a resource for becoming a critical and engaged citizen. The GPISD science department seeks to cultivate student's scientific habits of mind, develop their ability to engage in scientific inquiry, and foster their reasoning skills in scientific contexts.

    Announcements

The State Board of Education (SBOE) TEKS review and revision process calls for multiple, separate work groups to make recommendations to the SBOE for revisions to the current standards. SBOE members nominate individuals, including educators, parents, business and industry representatives, and employers, to serve on TEKS review work groups.

The SBOE is still accepting applications for science TEKS review work groups. Applications received will be submitted to SBOE members for review throughout the process. Individuals selected will be asked to serve on one or more work groups. The TEKS review work groups will convene in Austin for a minimum of one face-to-face meeting. Additional meetings may be conducted via webinar.

A link is provided below to the general application that TEA uses to form review committees.* A "Committee Preferences" section is at the end of the application. After selecting "SBOE Committee - Science TEKS Review Committee," the applicant will be asked additional questions related to science.

*Applicants do not need to be educators. From the first drop-down menu in the application, select "Other (No current district affiliation)." There are additional sections in the application where an applicant may select "parent or business professional," which will remove portions of the application specific to teaching experience.
