Student Transfers

  • Transfer Information
Student transfer applications are requests for students to attend a campus to which they are not zoned.  In approving transfers, the Superintendent or designee shall consider availability of space and instructional staff, necessary adjustments to existing programs, the student’s disciplinary history, and attendance records. One application must be submitted annually for each child. In addition, parents/guardians must sign and complete a Student Transfer Agreement included in the application process.

    Limited Open Enrollment
Limited Open Enrollment (LOE) allows children who do not live within Galena Park ISD’s boundaries to apply for enrollment.  The Superintendent may designate an annual limited open enrollment period. A nonresident student wishing to transfer into the District shall submit an application.  One application must be submitted annually for each child. In addition, parents/guardians must sign and complete a Student Transfer Agreement included in the application process.

    Special Request Transfers
A parent/guardian of a current Galena Park ISD student may submit a Special Request Application for their child/children to transfer from a zoned campus to a campus of choice. Special request transfers will only be considered during a designated enrollment period.  Applications will be considered for the following: academics, safety and special programs.  One application must be submitted annually for each child. In addition, parents/guardians must sign and complete a Student Transfer Agreement included in the application process.

Student Transfers for Employees – Resident and Non-Resident
All full-time resident and nonresident Galena Park ISD employees may apply for a transfer for their child/children to attend a Galena Park ISD campus. One application must be submitted annually for each child. In addition, employees must sign and complete a Student Transfer Agreement included in the application process.

Employees will only be allowed to request a transfer for their child/children during the designated enrollment period unless hired after the close of the annual enrollment period. Failure to submit a renewal for a current student transfer during the enrollment period will result in automatic revocation for the upcoming school year.

    Additional Information
Transfer requests to schools will be considered on space and staff availability.  Space availability will be evaluated at each grade level and/or program and transfers will be approved based on this evaluation.  Parents should be aware that the transfer request will not be approved if additional staff or classrooms are needed to accommodate the transfer student.  There are NO guarantees that children who transfer will be able to continue at the requested campus in future school years.

    Closed Campuses
The district will determine what campuses will be closed for transfers due to space and staff availability.  We are NOT accepting transfers for Pyburn Elementary, North Shore Middle School, and Woodland Acres Middle School

Out of district transfers are NOT eligible to attend Early College High School.

    District Students Who Become Nonresidents
A resident student who becomes a nonresident during the school year may be allowed to maintain enrollment in Galena Park ISD by submitting a Limited Open Enrollment application.  Applications must be completed by the parent/guardian.  If approved, the student shall attend the same school in which the student was enrolled while living in the District.  For additional information or questions, please contact the Student Admissions Department at (832) 386-1188.
