Welcome to Science

  • Philosophy of GPISD Science
The mission of the Galena Park Independent School District is to prepare students to become productive citizens and lifelong learners. We feel that by engaging our students in exciting investigations that incorporate higher level critical thinking skills, we can ensure success for all of our students.

Furthermore, science is an extension of everyone's natural curiosity and is a resource for becoming a critical and engaged citizen. The GPISD science department seeks to cultivate student's scientific habits of mind, develop their ability to engage in scientific inquiry, and foster their reasoning skills in scientific contexts.

The State Board of Education (SBOE) gave final approval on April 21, 2017, to the streamlined Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for K-8 science and four high school science courses. The streamlined TEKS will be implemented in classrooms beginning with the 2018-2019 school year. The link to the streamlined science TEKS can be found on the Texas Education Agency Science TEKS Streamlining page and here.
