Rice University’s Kinder Institute recently examined Houston-area school districts with spending gaps exceeding 40% and underperforming on state academic achievement ratings. Beginning with the class of 2024, Galena Park Independent School District (GPISD) seniors in the top 50 percent of their graduating class will also earn automatic admission to Tarleton State University.
We are pleased to inform you the Galena Park Independent School District will be implementing a new option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).
To ensure student, staff, and visitor safety, along with quick and efficient entry into GPISD campuses and facilities, a Clear Bag Regulation has been instituted for visitors. This will limit the type of bag allowed. All bags brought onto GPISD campuses or facilities by visitors are subject to visual inspection.

On February 8, 2024, Ms. LaTisha Guillory, an English Teacher at North Shore Senior High 10th Grade Center, was named the 2023 Houston Area Alliance Black School Educator (HAABSE) Outstanding Secondary Teacher of the Year for the entire Houston area.
Counseling teams at Galena Park Middle School, North Shore Middle School, North Shore Senior High Ninth Grade Center, and Galena Park High School earned Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas (CREST) Awards.
The Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees joined The College Band Directors National Association, Music for All, and National Band Association in recognizing Shane Goforth, North Shore Senior High School Band Director, for receiving the Dr. William P. Foster Project Community Development Award.

Galena Park ISD regularly provides mass notifications to parents, guardians, students, and faculty regarding weather closures, threat situations, event scheduling, or to provide other important education-related information. These messages not only drive positive educational outcomes, they can also save lives.
As of August 26, 2018 all school districts are subject to the Commissioner’s rules regarding the removal of a disruptive person from a campus. More information regarding this new rule can be found in Chapter 37, section 37.105 of the Texas Education Code, which addresses: Unauthorized Persons, Refusal of Entry, Ejection, and Identification.
